I became a member of St. Christopher’s soon after my first visit in February 2009, when my husband and I retired and moved to Carmel from Los Angeles to live near our immediate family. As a stranger reconnecting to the Midwest after decades, I quickly found a church community at St. Christopher’s who welcomed me and included me in the worship that was in the Parish Hall prior to the dedication and completion of our new sanctuary in June 2009. To this day, I continue to pass the cornerstone of our building that reminds me of the anniversary of my arrival at this wonderful church.
Joining the choir was one of my first endeavors, and that included weekly practices and opportunities to sing in Madrigal Dinners, Evensong services and collaborations with other choirs for special diocesan worship. I took the oath of admission to the order of The Daughters of the King at St. Christopher’s in 2011, which includes dedicating my life to prayer, service and evangelism as a follower of Jesus. St. Christopher’s Crops and Common Grounds leadership provide additional resources and contacts that include helping others and learning about Jesus as I value the life of St. Christopher’s missions and outreach. As a retired school administrator, I worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent before retiring in 2008. Curriculum, staff development, assessment, special projects, and educational governance were especially important in my career of 30 years in public education. Collaboration, teamwork, and managing resources and projects for the good of educating children and adults highlighted my love of my profession. My husband, Gene, passed away in November 2020. I have one son, a daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter in Carmel and another son and his fiancé in New York City. I enjoy my book club, watercolor/pastel painting classes, The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary of Indianapolis, and managing sales of miniatures on eBay for the Museum of Miniatures and Other Collections in downtown Carmel, where I serve as a member of the Board of Directors. I continue to enjoy opportunities that serve others and I look forward to serving St. Christopher’s as a member of the vestry. |

I joined the St. Christopher’s family almost three years ago when I moved to Carmel from West Hartford, Connecticut, where I was a member at St. James’s Episcopal Church for over ten years. After arriving at St. Christopher’s, I was immediately enlisted as an usher at the 7:45 a.m. service and subsequently became responsible for making the coffee. I was licensed as a Lay Eucharistic Visitor by the Bishop of the Diocese of Indianapolis two years ago and served shut-ins until the COVID-19 outbreak.
After graduating from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, I joined the US Air Force, retiring after a twenty-three-year career as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with the rank of Colonel. Upon my retirement I joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine where I taught for twenty-five years and served as the Associate Dean for Students. I also held teaching appointments at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Quinnipiac University School of Medicine, and Tufts University Dental School. My volunteer service included the Special Olympics program and a local homeless shelter. My favorite volunteer activities were taking dental students to provide dental care to underserved communities in Central and South America and Africa. Originally from Michigan, I have lived all over the United States thanks to the Air Force. My favorite assignment was three years in England. I have three children and four grandchildren. My hobbies include cycling, hiking, reading, knitting, and painting. Although retired, I am a textbook co-editor. Since moving to Carmel, my co-editor and I have published three books and are contracted for two more. Moving to the Rose Senior Living facility here in Carmel and joining St. Christopher’s have turned out to be excellent choices. |

I have been a member of St. Christopher’s for eighteen years, joining with my husband and our daughters in 2003. I was born and raised Catholic, but we decided to join the Episcopal Church after spending time at St. Christopher’s. The Episcopal Church’s values and beliefs mirrored those of my family. Additionally, St. Christopher’s members welcomed us so graciously that we kept coming back. I believe this welcoming fueled my passion for fellowship and service at St. Christopher’s. Since joining I have been actively involved with various ministries and projects including: congregant leader of Fellowship Ministry , leader of Ladies in Fellowship Together (LIFT), member of the Usher Team, volunteer for the Summer Meals Program, member of the Search Committee that brought Rev. Cara to St. Christopher’s, Acolyte Coordinator, Time and Talent Co-chair, and a committee member of the Golf Outing Committee and St. Christopher’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.
I am an executive assistant for Senior Solutions Consulting, Inc., a firm that provides financial planning, and helps clients with Veteran’s and Medicaid benefits. Formerly, I was an instructional aide for Carmel Clay Schools, a compensation manager, and human resource professional. I have a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Human Resources and Business Management. I hope to bring the knowledge I have gained from my work experiences to help me in service on the vestry. I live in Carmel with my husband of thirty-two years, Mark. We have two adult daughters, Katie (age 25) and Amanda (age 23). Some of you may remember them as acolytes. We also have two sweet dogs, Riley and Gracie. I enjoy walking, cooking, hiking, and can’t wait to get back to traveling with my family. |
